What this policy covers
This policy explains the cookies set by tutorspot.co.uk and app.tutorspot.co.uk (together, “the site”), run by AP Education Services Ltd trading as “Tutorspot”, and how you choose which ones we may use. A cookie is a small text file your browser stores for a website; the site reads it back on later visits.
The site is one place for cookies: a choice you make on either address applies to both, because the cookies below are set for .tutorspot.co.uk. Our privacy and cookies policy explains what we do with personal information more generally.
Cookies the site needs to work
These are set without asking, because the site cannot work without them. None of them is used for analytics or advertising.
Cookie What it does How long it lasts ember_simple_auth-session Keeps you signed in. It holds the token that identifies your account to our servers, and is cleared when you sign out. Until you sign out, or two hours after your last visit if you don't tutorspot_consent Remembers the choice you made in the cookie banner, so we don't ask again on every page. 6 months sidebar_state Remembers whether you collapsed the account sidebar. 7 days Our payment provider, Stripe, sets its own cookies on the pages that show a card form (accepting a lesson reservation, your payment card, completing a payment). They detect fraud and keep the card form working; see Stripe’s privacy policy.
Cookies we ask you about
The banner on your first visit asks about two kinds of cookie. Neither is set until you agree, and nothing is sent to these companies before then: Google Consent Mode starts with analytics and advertising storage denied, and advertising storage stays denied whatever you choose, because we don't advertise to you on the site.
Analytics (Google Analytics). Helps us see which pages are used and where people get stuck, so we can improve the site. Google Analytics sets _ga and _ga_… cookies that give your browser a random id; they last up to two years. Google's cookie information explains them in more detail.
Functional (Intercom live chat). Lets you message our team from any page while you are signed in. Intercom sets intercom-… cookies that keep your conversation open between pages; they last up to a year. See Intercom’s cookie policy.
Changing your choice
You can change your choice at any time, as easily as you made it: choose Cookie settings at the bottom of any public page, in the account menu once you are signed in, or under Settings › Notifications. The banner opens again with your current choice, and saving it takes effect straight away: withdrawing analytics consent stops Google Analytics on the next page you open, and withdrawing functional consent closes live chat.
If we add a new kind of cookie or a new company, we ask everyone again: the banner comes back on your next visit even if you had already chosen.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser; allaboutcookies.org explains how for each browser. If you block the cookies the site needs to work, you will not be able to stay signed in.
